Hyundai Palisade vs Subaru Ascent

The Hyundai Palisade Takes on the Competition near Freehold

When you're shopping for a three-row SUV like the new Hyundai Palisade in Shrewsbury, NJ, you might not understand what makes it the right choice over some of the other options. That's why our team at Circle Hyundai wants to highlight some of the key details that set it apart from one of its top competitors, the Subaru Ascent.

Performance Advantages

The Palisade and the Ascent are suitably powerful SUVs, but there are a few small differences. The Subaru Ascent uses a 2.4-liter engine to produce 260 horsepower, but the Palisade can produce up to 291 horsepower with its engine. The Hyundai Palisade also uses an eight-speed automatic transmission, giving it more responsive acceleration than the Ascent's continuously variable transmission.

While both SUVs can tow up to 5,000 pounds through Freehold, the Ascent can only tow up to 2,000 pounds on its base trim. The Palisade's 5,000-pound towing capacity is available from its base SE trim level. This lets you get the towing you need at an affordable cost.

Comparing Size

These SUVs are both very close to each other in many of their dimensions. Length, wheelbase, and ground clearance are all within an inch of each other. When you move inside, both the Palisade and the Ascent can have seven or eight passengers seated comfortably, and they have almost exactly the same cargo volume numbers. The Hyundai Palisade sits with only about two extra cubic feet of passenger volume.

While these two SUVs have very similar dimensions in almost every respect, there is a noteworthy difference in legroom for the front and second-row seats. While the Subaru Ascent has up to 42.2 inches of legroom in the front and 38.6 inches for the second-row seats, the Hyundai Palisade adds to this for 44.1 inches of legroom in the front seats and 42.4 inches for the second row.

Comfort for the Whole Family

Heated and ventilated front seats are both available on these SUVs at similar-priced trims. However, while the Subaru Ascent has heated second-row seating available, you can get this at a more affordable price on the Hyundai Palisade, and you'll also get heated seating for the third row. You'll also find ventilated rear seats on the Palisade Limited, which are not available on the Ascent.

Features & Entertainment

A strong infotainment system can make a world of difference on the roads of Middletown, NJ. Both SUVs come with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, however, in the Ascent, you must plug in your phone for it to connect with one of these. The Hyundai Palisade has wireless smartphone integration standard, and you can pick up wireless device charging on the Palisade SEL to completely rid yourself of unnecessary cables.

You'll want a large screen to see your phone's music, communication and other apps. The Palisade comes with an 8-inch color touchscreen audio, and you can upgrade that to a 10.25-inch color touchscreen as early as the SEL trim. This larger screen also includes onboard Navigation and Traffic flow via HD Radioâ„¢. The Subaru Ascent only starts with a 6.5-inch infotainment system, and it only upgrades to an 8.0-inch version.

Drive Through Toms River, NJ with Remarkable Safety

These SUVs both won the Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety thanks to superb headlights and driver-assistance technology. Both have systems like Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. However, the Hyundai Palisade has a few extra safety systems. Driver Attention Warning is standard on the base trim, and Safe Exit Assist is standard on the SEL trim, both of which are not found on the Ascent.
